Mega Man was one of the pieces I most wanted to make when I started work on the Space Invaders. At the time I thought “holy smokes, he is huge and complex….I’ll never make him”…fast forward a month or two and voila, Mega Man and Cut Man are locked in battle.

I think the Mega Man stuff looks especially nice as wood pixel art. They all have a nice black outline that makes them stand out from the wall. Each character has such great dynamic poses as well. I think I would be perfectly happy just trying to create each and every Mega Man boss as pixel art.

Contra was one of the few co-op games on the NES. Everyone knows this one….everyone knows the code for more lives… One of my friends at work suggested I make a Contra piece….so I did. I thought making a Spreadshot icon would be nice too. I can’t make it float like it did in the game but it still looks nice on the wall!

I kinda cheated here...there was no Contra character with green pants...but green stain is what I had so there you go...

I have no idea what Ken's face means in this picture. I can think of several things, but nothing that I would print...

Ken is a bit less angry in this one...must be because he finally got his hands on a sweet upgrade for his gun!

Hiiiiyaaahhhh!!!! I was never very good at Ninja Gaiden for the NES. In fact, I was terrible at it, so I just watched my friends play it. The piece here is of the hero of the game, Ryu, in his climbing animation. For this piece I used 3/4 inch squares for the pixels and I stained and sealed both sides so that I could mount the piece coming off the wall like you see. Being able to walk around the piece and see him attached to the wall (via hidden screws) makes it really seem like he is scaling the wall.

I have another Ninja Gaiden piece that I am going to be adding to the walls at work…Ryu in his run animation!

This sprite is so awesome...you really get a sense of motion and speed just from his pose! Mounted on a wall he looks great!

The grandest of all Atari 2600 games! Adventure!!! The very first game to ever feature an Easter Egg by a (the) programmer… This game had it all…terrifying enemies, a dashing hero, a chalice and a sword that looks just like an arrow. My friend Kyle told me that I had to make him a dragon….so I did. This is the second set I made to hang up at work. It includes the Hero (the square), the sword, the TERRIFYING dragon and the key the Hero is searching for. I think it all turned out pretty good. The Hero is a little more square than I remember him being and that dragon is a lot scarier when you are a kid…

Behold the mighty dragon! The key is off to the right...good luck getting it with that dragon in the way....

The only thing missing is a bat....and a chalice......and a castle....

Excite Bike was one of the first complex pixel art pieces I tried. Multiple colors, lots of edges, some floating pixels…this one was quite a bit more difficult than the earlier ones like Space Invaders and Joust. I watched Indiana Jones on a loop as I cut the wood, stained it and glued it all together. I really enjoyed Excite Bike when I was younger, the feeling of speed as you would launch off a ramp or hit a turbo pad was unlike anything else at the time. This one reads really well from a distance and I dig the action of him being in the middle of a wheelie or a jump.

Here is the Excite Bike piece up on a wall. The height and position makes it look like it's ready to jump across the hall!
